Fee Rebates

Online psychological services are covered by some Private Health Insurances and by public health services such as Medicare in Australia.

Private Health Insurance
Rebates can vary among insurance companies and different plan packages. Most plans have some cover under 'extras' for psychological services. It is advisable to check with your Private Health Insurance to determine your level of cover for in-person and online sessions.

Public Health rebates
Public health rebates vary from one country to another. For international users of the services provided, you may wish to check with your local authorities for further information about online psychological therapy rebates.
Medicare Rebates
Australian citizens are able to claim psychological services under Medicare.
Medicare rebates can be accessed by asking your GP or any medical specialist, including a psychiatrist, for a Mental Health Plan and a referral.
If you are an Australian resident the following rebates are available to you.

Clinic-based consultations
Clinical psychology services attract the highest psychology rebates through Medicare for Australian residents. The rebate for clinical psychology services per session is $128.40 for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Online Consultations
Online consultations are now claimable under Medicare in Australia. This initiative was put into effect in response to the COVID pandemic and has continued due to being shown to be an effective treatment modality, making it possible for everyone to access therapy from anywhere in Australia under Medicare. Due to possible changes, it is advised you check with your GP at the time of referral whether Medicare rebates still apply for online therapy.
Australians living in remote rural areas and 'fly-in-fly-out' (FIFO) workers working in remote regions, can receive Medicare rebates for online psychology sessions under the Rural Telehealth Scheme.
