online consultations

Online consultation is convenient and accessible. You can access support at a time and place that is most convenient and comfortable for you, whether it be your home, office, cafe, or from a lodge in the Swiss alps if you happen to be lucky enough to be spending time there.

Two types of individual consultations are offered on this site.

Single-Session Coaching and Sequential-session Counseling.

All consultations draw on coaching and therapy approaches that are scientifically proven to be effective, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

The therapeutic modality used will depend on the nature of your concerns and the approach that will be most helpful.

SINGLE-SESSION coaching

Single session coaching (SSC) is based on the Single-Session-Therapy model, meaning each session aims to be a stand-alone session. There is a growing body of research showing this to be an effective approach in assisting people to develop strategies or ideas to help with their most pressing concerns.

SSCs can help to make sure you’re getting the most of your first session and for some people, their only session. SSCs are collaborative and responsive; they focus on your key concerns and goals. You and your coach will work together on strategies for change.  By the end of the session clients usually leave with greater clarity, hope and increased awareness of strengths and resources they can draw on in addressing their concern.

A SSC does not prevent you from having further SSC sessions or ongoing counseling. While it is quite common for people to be satisfied with only the one contact, further sessions can be scheduled at the end of the consultation if needed, or at your own discretion at a future time.

SSCs can be used for a wide range of issues, including improving relationships, managing emotions, decision making, coping effectively with work issues, illness, mental health concerns and personal transitions such as divorces or becoming a parent. In fact, there are no specific issues that do not benefit from SSC.

In your appointment confirmation email, you will receive instructions to complete a pre-session questionnaire, which will help your therapist find out more about you, your main concerns and your goals for the session.

You can choose a 20, 50 or 80 minute session, depending on the  nature of your concern and how long you would like to spend on it.

Sequential-Session Counseling

Sequential sessions are a more traditional therapy format. This structure enable a more thorough exploration of your concerns and relevant background history. Goals can be broader and more complex. Sequential sessions will also give you the opportunity to review, refine and develop new skills and strategies with the guidance of your therapist.

Sessions are usually booked a week or a fortnight apart depending on the nature of the concern.

Commonly, people have a single Coaching session prior to booking  sequential sessions, however this is not a necessary step if you feel confident you prefer this approach.

Online Mindfulness Meditation Open Groups

20 or 40 minutes, plus 10 minutes reflection

These are weekly  mindful meditation sessions that are run live and are designed to help you develop or maintain your meditation practice without having to leave home or your office.

Each session stands alone and does not depend on participation in previous or subsequent sessions. You can join us for one or as many sessions as you wish.

The sessions involve a meditation period followed by reflection time to enable you and the other participants to discuss your experience and refine your practice.

Sessions can be purchased one at a time or you can pre-purchase a discounted package of 10 sessions that you can use anytime over the following twelve months.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)Group

MSC is an 8 week, two-hours per week, group program offered both online and at Jenny's rooms.

MSC focuses on specific topics, skills and strategies that help you to tame the critic within and become more loving and compassionate towards yourself. By natural extension, you will also learn how to be compassionate towards those you come in contact with at home, at work, in your community and beyond, without compromising your well-being.

The online group is run live and is similar in format to a location-based group.  You will be participating in an interactive structured program, with 8-15 other participants. The advantage of the online program is that it can be conveniently accessed from your own home or office, while still getting the benefit of sharing the experience and learning from other participants as well as from the facilitator.

The location-based program includes a half-day meditation retreat and runs over 9 weeks. In a location-based group, you get to meet other participants in person. You will get an opportunity to practice, exchange ideas and develop relationships with others in a safe, structured environment.
